The Spiritual Essence of Roses - How to work with Rosewater for Healing #224
We’d love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show!
Love is in the air—or at least, all over the aisles of every store right now. Roses are everywhere, spilling out of grocery displays and flower shop windows, just waiting to be gifted as a symbol of love. But there’s a reason roses have held this status for centuries. They carry a high-vibrational energy that has been used in spiritual and healing traditions all over the world.
Beyond their beauty and heavenly scent, roses remind us to soften, to open, and to receive love in all its forms. For thousands of years, their essence has been woven into sacred ceremonies, healing rituals, and everyday magic to help connect us to something bigger than ourselves.
In this episode, we’re getting into rosewater—one of the most powerful (and easiest!) ways to work with this high-vibe flower. We’ll talk about how different cultures have used rosewater for centuries, how it can clear and uplift energy, and why it’s an incredible tool for heart healing and deepening your spiritual practice.
And if you’ve ever wanted to make your own rosewater—whether for a heartfelt gift or to infuse it with your own personal healing intentions—we’ll point you in the right direction and share a couple of tips and ideas to help get the most out of yours.

Christina Wooten:Hey there, kinderd spirits. Welcome to Modern Life and Spirit podcast. It's Christina Wooten, certified psychic medium at SedonaMedium.com Welcome to our show. Today, it's almost Valentine's Day, which is the perfect time for us to talk about how important it is to continue to open our hearts to be able to receive the blessings that are here for us in this lifetime, it's the perfect time to make sure that our life, that our energy, that our frequency, is aligned with divine love, that is aligned with Our heart so that we can follow our hearts. It's very hard to follow our heart when we're not connected to it, and holding that vibration steady throughout our life. For those who study such things, Rose is known as the highest vibrating plant on the planet, which is absolutely mind boggling to think about. But this is why rose water has been used for healing, for blessing, for protection, across countless spiritual traditions. And there's so much to be said about when one thing kind of permeates multiple spiritual and religious traditions. There is a universal truth that's contained in the essence of rose water, and we see that universally being respected by many different cultures, that says a lot about the essence of what we're talking about. So today we're going to dive into that spiritual essence of roses, how rose water has been used for centuries in rituals, in prayer and energetic cleansing. We're going to talk about how anointing yourself with rose water can uplift your energy. It can strengthen your connection to the divine and bring healing, most importantly, to your heart, to your spirit, so you can be fully present. I'll also share some of my personal experiences with rose water, from clearing spaces to creating a sacred atmosphere for intuitive work before I do my readings and even how you can make your own rose water at home, because it's a lot easier than you would think. So whether you are looking for just a really quick, simple, effective way to clear negativity, whether you need to deepen your self care or your self connection, or you just want to bring more love into your daily life, this episode is going to help you to embrace the magic of rose water in your own sacred practice. So let's take a deep breath and bring all of that energy to your heart's face. And let's talk about the energy of roses. If you're not familiar with rose water, you can find it in a lot of metaphysical stores, sometimes crystal stores, even natural healing stores. In some places, you can find it at Whole Foods, which is pretty accessible, or for me, I find mine at natural grocers. But rose water is sold as a spray, and it's made from the petals of roses where it's been steam distilled, and you can use that spray, which has a beautiful perfume of roses, in many different ways, wherever you can spray it. We'll talk about all the different ways that you can use it in just a minute. But in Islamic rituals, it's been used to help cleanse yourself and your energy and your auric field before prayer. It was a popular remedy for depression during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance times. It's used in some Byzantine Catholic ceremonies for consecrating the altar. It's been believed to help balance the body's doshas in Ayurvedic practice, creating harmony and well being within the body. Ancient cultures like the Egyptians and Greeks and Persians anointed themselves with rose oil or rose water to purify their energy and to call in divine love. And in the Jewish tradition, Archangel barichiel is primarily seen as an angel who bestows blessings, divine grace and protection, and is often associated with roses. So it has a really long, long history of being used. For
Unknown:sacred practice and sacred purpose. How we
Christina Wooten:generally use rose water now is that it's a natural energetic cleanser, so it helps to remove and release negative or stagnant energy from your aura or from your environment. It deepens the connection between the heart and divine love, and it brings us this feeling of being uplifted, of purity, of unity, oneness and love. A lot of people also use it for spiritual protection, where they're misting the aura before meditation, or maybe after stressful interactions of some sort. You can spray it around your home, your altar, your sacred space, to clear unwanted energy. You can even wipe down your front door or windows with rose water for spiritual protection or just for a blessing on the home to bring beautiful energy into the space. It can be used before energy work or card readings or rituals to create a high vibrational space, and it's really nice also, if you work in a commercial space and can't sage easily, I've worked in many different environments, and in some of the healing spaces that I've been in, in commercial spaces, there haven't been ways to open windows so you couldn't sage and rose water is a great way to help cleanse and to lift the energy of the space. Just to give you some ideas, I thought I'd share some of the ways that I personally use rose water. Now here in Sedona, I do go to Airbnbs if I'm doing a group session, so maybe I'm doing an in person reading for several different people. When I do that, there's a lot of weird energy that can be present in the Airbnbs around here in particular, and mostly that's because people come to Sedona from lots of different faith traditions and intuitive traditions and spiritual traditions. And some people are just kind of, you know, opening doors and stuff left and right and just leaving energy open. Maybe they're not as experienced with what it is that they're doing. And so that leaves these Airbnbs with a lot of very strange energy to deal with. And so I always bring rose water as one of my tools when I'm going into a space where I have to do readings, because very quickly, I want to be able to lift the energy and lift the vibration in a way that's non obtrusive to others, but also really creates a positive environment for the work that we are Going to be doing together and ensures that I'm setting those boundaries energetically that are needed so that we're not in a vulnerable state as people are stepping into healing work. Rose water is also on my reading table, and it's always available there for just an energetic uplift or to help create the right space. I usually use it after I've used some sort of cleansing. So whether it's sage or palo santo or something along those lines, after that, I'll follow it up with some spritz of the rose water to just bring in that beautiful essence of divine love and that connection. When I did in person healing sessions, I would spray it a lot in the room when people left to just help cleanse the space in a pleasing way. So just ensure that the last little remnants of energy that they have brought into the space was being transmuted and transformed and cleansed. I also like to use it when I'm charging up Rose Quartz. So if you have some rose quartz pieces, I've got quite a bit of them, some of them like water as a refresher or to help charge their energy. And rose water in particular, is really great for that. So just give them a little spritz every now and then, and it really charges and lifts their energy. You can spray it on a mattress or harder to clean energetic places. So spraying it over a mattress really helps it kind of settle in and absorb, lifts that energy. Love that and of course, it has a really pleasing smell, which just adds to it as well. I use it for blessing my sacred statuary. So if you've come to my home, you know that I have lots of Quan Yin statuary in particular, and it's represented throughout my home, and I spray them with rose water, with gratitude in my heart and thankfulness as a way of honoring something that represents the divine in when you're working with statuary in that way as a symbol of the Divine Being in the space, honoring that and taking care of that and appreciating it and respecting this as a symbol of that energy. Being in your home or in your environment is important, and one easy way to do it without really dam. Ching the statuary at all is using the essence of rose water, similar to how it's used in the Byzantine church for consecrating the altar space. And really, you can use it anywhere that you want to just spread the energy of special blessings. I've even used it on hikes when it's so hot in Sedona for just a little refreshing spritz, and it's amazing. It's definitely I recommend it to add to your beach bag for the summer, or your pool bag or whatever. Really is nice. Now I know that it isn't always convenient to give yourself yet another project, right? But we're all in different cycles of life. So for some of us, we have that extra time to set aside some intention and focus and to create rose water. But like I said, if you don't want to make your own rose water, or you don't feel the internal calling to do so you don't have to, you can generally find it relatively inexpensively, thank goodness at Crystal shops, metaphysical stores, health food stores, and like I said, I get mine a lot from natural grocers, but I've also made it. And making it does have some advantages too, because you can customize it as you're making it with your intention. If you are familiar with Reiki and energy work, you can allow Reiki or healing to flow through your hands as you go through each step of the process of creating it and fusing it with even more healing energy. And that just brings everything up even another notch, and all that intention makes for something really incredible. And you can customize what your focus is as you create the rose water disclaimer, because I have made rose water before, is commercially bought, rose water is always going to have the very best fragrance, because they're using the more fragrant damask roses generally. But if you have a rose garden, or someone you know does, you can use unsprayed fresh roses for your creation, ideally, things that aren't right next to the road so they're not picking up all of that soot and stuff from driving by. I want you to think about when you are driving after it snowed, and after a while, you see all that nasty smoke mark that builds up in parking lots and so forth around the old snow. Yeah, basically that stuff is what's sitting on top of our plants and so forth. That's by the roads, okay? So ideally, you don't want to use things that are by a high traffic area or down by the road. The smell of your rose water is always going to vary the depth of that depending on the depth of the perfume of the roses that you have chosen. So if you're going to make it at home, you are going to use the steam distillation method, but just know that that smell is going to be different depending on how fragrant your roses happen to be. Now you might be wondering, can I just use roses that you get from the store? You could, but they're generally sprayed. They've been through the mass production process, and they're just not ideal. If you can use fresh roses from a garden or elsewhere, that would be highly preferred because you're also, you know, you're not getting all that spray and stuff into what it is that you're creating. So ideally, I would not suggest using anything that's store bought. You're also not going to get a very strong aroma from that either. But you could use it if you really, really were in a pinch, or you were in an area you just did not have access to being able to get commercial rose water, for example. Now here's some neat things, if you are creating it yourself that can be pretty cool. You can blend the fresh roses that you have and you can add special roses that maybe you've dried from special experiences in your life. So if you have roses, maybe from your wedding, or roses from a special event, or from your first date, or things like that. You could add those dry petals in with the fresh petals that you're using in your creation, and that just adds another layer of intention, of beautiful energy and personalization of your vibration that's going into what it is that you're creating. But ideally, you're going to use those organic rose petals and fresh petals, so ideally fresh and not dried, distilled water. You're going to need that for long term preservation. You're going to need ice access to. Ice throughout the process of the steam distillation, you'll need a large pot with a lid, a glass bowl or jar that's going to fit inside the large pot and allows the flowers and water to float openly around the outside of the jar as it sits inside the pot and then an airtight, sterilized spray container that you can store your rose water in, depending on how much you get. You can find those online, or you can generally find them at Whole Foods or somewhere similar. Maybe an apothecary as well. Might be able to have something like that, just a small spray bottle is really all you need, maybe two ounces, probably, and then a little bit of ever clear vodka and to help set the vibration and preserve your mix and give you a longer shelf life so that it, you Know, inhibits any bacterial growth, so that allows the rose water just have a little bit of longer lasting and you don't need a whole lot. You just need a very, very little bit to help set the vibration and inhibit any of that bacterial growth. I don't want to spend all of our time together just giving you step by step details, because it's a lot easier to see it, than to just hear me talk about it. But I'm going to link a video about how to create your own rose water and in the page wherever it is that you are listening. So if you don't see the direct link page for today's show notes, you can always go to Sedona, medium.com, forward slash podcast and use the episode number to find the page, but I'm going to link the video for how to create your own rose water to that particular page. Okay, so you can find that at any time, but it's very easy. As you can tell from the ingredient and material list that you need. It's things that are very accessible, that you could get and create pretty easily within a couple of hours. So once you've made or chosen your rose water, you now have this amazing tool at your hands right, this beautiful essence of the highest vibrating plant that we have available to us. It's infused with love, with healing, with beautiful energy. But like any spiritual tool, its true power comes in how you use it, the intention that you set and the energy that you invite in. And I know it can be intimidating to think, well, now what you know, obviously, you can do all the things that we talked about earlier in the episode. You can walk around. You can spray spaces. Really get into the corners, spray your mattress, really lift the energy and the vibration. Paying attention to how you feel. How is your heart chakra responding to this beautiful gift of the essence of the rose water in the environment. But there's another really simple way to work with rose water. If you are feeling a little bit intimidated, you just have too many options. You're not sure where to start. You can use it as a blessing ritual for helping to clear negativity and to restore balance, and it's something you can do whenever you feel energetically, heavy, emotionally drained, or just when you simply want to bring in more love and light into your space. So you're gonna start first, once you have your rose water, find a quiet place and take a deep breath you're and just prepare your space. Take a moment and just kind of figure out, how can this be quiet healing space for me? What can I do to make this 10% 50% you know, 70% better, so that this can be a healing space for me. So find a way so that you're not going to be disturbed. Maybe you put some things away, put your phone away, put up a Do Not Disturb sign. You could light a candle or incense and set the intention that what you're doing is you're clearing, you're releasing and letting go of anything that you're ready to release and let go of, and then set an intention. So hold the bottle of rose water, and you're going to say, in your mind, in your heart, in your energy, something like this water holds the pure essence of love, of protection and divine peace. May it cleanse and bless my energy filling me with light. Do you just need to say it once where you're really affirming what your intention and the focus of this practice is, and then you're going to anoint yourself? So spritz that rose water above your head and let it just. Fall down into your aura, over your body. You can mist it over your heart center and take a deep breath, just welcoming in love, expanding, creating spaciousness in the heart, allowing yourself to focus on being open, to receive blessings. And then you're going to close the process whenever you feel like you need to. Now, if you have an area of pain, you can do a little bit of focus there too spray in that area. You know you're going to do it a few feet from you, so that you're not just like hair spray. You're not just sticking a big blob of rose water just in that one area. You're dispersing it. It's really the vibration itself of the water and of that spritz that's happening, versus like having to douse yourself with the water. Okay, you're just allowing that vibration to affect that area of your body. So you can focus on areas that maybe you have more pain, or you can always add this love energy to any of your other chakras. If you are focusing on opening your throat chakra, if you are needing extra healing in your sacral chakra, wherever it calls you, allow that rose water to be sprayed and kind of open into divine love. And then at the very end, you're just gonna seal the process. You might say a personal affirmation or just a prayer of thanksgiving. Thank you so much. I appreciate this gift of healing. Thank you to the roses who made this possible, and my connection with the earth, whatever it is that feels natural from your heart, or if you struggle with the like from the heart that feels stressful or intimidating. You can just say, I'm filled with light, I am filled with love, something very simple, like that, and then just allow yourself to sit in that beautiful energy, letting yourself observe how your body is feeling, how your energy feels, continuing to let that vibration set in and create positive effect within your body. And you can use this as many times a day as you want to. There's no limit you can if you're in a particularly stressful period of time, spray, spray, spray away. That's my philosophy. So I want to remind you that I will put that video about how to create rose water on linked to the show notes page for this episode. So wherever it is that you're listening, look for that it is not my personal video, but it's one that I have used, and I've used others as well in creating rose water. When I have made it myself, I want to also just suggest that this is a beautiful gift that you can create for other people. So maybe you have a lovely harvest of a lot of roses in your garden this year, and you have are looking for something to do with them other than kind of having them in the garden. You want to do something special with their beauty, with their essence and with their energy. You want to create something for someone's birthday, for Valentine's Day, for the holidays. This is a inexpensive but really big bang kind of gift that you can create and customize for someone, and it does make a really big difference energetically. So if you create it as a gift, you can just create a little card that explains what rose water is and how they can use it, and just give them a couple of different suggestions of if you've created it personally for them, how you were envisioning that they might create it. Some people could, you know, just spritz it over their pillow before they go to bed. I mean, just very simple things. You don't have to be Woo to really enjoy the beauty of rose water and the powerful effects that it has. But I wanted to put that out there, because it is so potent, and it is one of those go to spiritual tools that should always be in the tool bag, and it's something that you can share with others and make it and add so much to it by doing so, I hope that by learning a little bit more about rose water and its long history that it will help you to feel more confident and inspired and excited to use this as one of your spiritual tools, and, of course, just a reminder, it always goes great with Rose Quartz. So if you want to store it, you can put it next to your rose quartz, or you can give it as a gift with some rose quartz too. It makes a really sweet healing bundle for the Heart Chakra. All right, everyone, thank you so much for joining me. I hope that you enjoy creating your own rose water at home, as always, many blessings, lots of love. The
