Christina Wooten:

Hey there, kindred spirits. Welcome to the show. We are officially in high season here in Sedona, I went to wildflower this morning in uptown to get some work done, and it was packed to the brim with people in every seat. It was such a weird transition that happens when you live here, when you get reminded of what Sedona season is like, it's like, oh, oh yeah. It's that time of year, time to add a lot of time to your driving time, to avoid known trailheads and hit the outskirts. It's just interesting. And there are two different types of people that coexist in Sedona. One is the kind that passionately is a little bit anti tourist and just wants to keep Sedona and the beauty and the energy all to themselves. And the other type is the kind of people that welcome interactions with people from all walks of life, that love to see people light up with the same wonder and joy and gratitude and awe that Sedona really inspires. I hope that you can guess that I am type number two, definitely love to see people light up with the same just wonder of the beauty of Sedona. Welcome to our episode. This week is part three of our special series. In this series, we have been exploring the five love languages, not just in our relationships with other people, but in how we experience and express love in our connection with spirit. So I'm sharing some of the nuggets of wisdom that I got from the book God speaks your Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and also adding my insights as a psychic medium, intuition teacher and energy practitioner. So before we dive into today's topic, which is acts of service. I would encourage you, if you missed the first couple of episodes, to take a listen, especially to Episode one that really more deeply introduces the concept of what we are talking about. And it's especially important if you aren't familiar with the love languages at all. The first episode, we talked about the love language of physical touch. In the second episode of this series, we talked about words of affirmation. And as I said, in this episode, we're going to be talking about the love language of acts of service. If you are not familiar with The Five Love Languages, I'll give you a really brief synopsis of the concept, the concept of The Five Love Languages is that they reveal unique ways that we give and receive love. So each of us has a natural preference, whether it's through words, actions, time, touch or gifts, that makes us feel more deeply seen and more appreciated. So when we understand our own love language and the love language of those people that are around us, we can create more fulfilling, harmonious relationships. We understand how that person receives love and how they give love, and we can acknowledge the efforts that they're making and they can understand us and the ways that we give and receive love. And what we're exploring in this episode is how to apply this understanding to our spiritual connection to our relationship with the divine. The Divine speaks all of the love languages, but we may feel it best or feel more connected in that relationship when we are speaking and receiving in our own natural love language, where we have already built a deep connection. So in this series, we're looking at those practices that can help you more fully dive into expressing your language and getting the benefits of that in your spiritual life, or for those who want to just more fluently speak the many different languages without being limited to one or two, you are certainly welcome here as well. So in talking about the love language of acts of service, we need to first understand acts of service and how that is unique from the other languages. Acts of service is all about experiencing love through thoughtful action. So actions really important acts of service and meaningful support. So if this is your primary love language, you probably feel most loved and most valued when someone does something helpful or supportive like. Making your coffee in the morning, doing your least favorite chore so that you don't have to do it. It doesn't even have to come on your radar. It could also look like your partner helping out with a project that you've been stressing over, or quietly handling errands that help to lighten your load. Honestly, it's less about grand gestures in acts of service, and more about showing that you care about the concerns of your partner. So that intentionality is very important. So for people who really resonate with acts of service, actions really speak louder than words. It's also not just about doing something for them. It's also most powerful when it really shows your understanding of them and your intentionality to help them. And that's highly personal. So it may not register for them that doing the laundry is a gift to them, if they don't mind doing the laundry, because that's not very personal. So maybe you're doing it thinking, Oh, I'm speaking this person's love language. But if it's something that they don't mind doing, or isn't really a hassle for them, even though it is their love language, it may not register as kind of hitting the right spot, but say instead you take over doing the taxes. You know, we're in tax season here for the family, because they just really hate it and stress over it, then that really shows a more personal intention. To show your love for them. They know that you are doing something to help them, to relieve stress for them, to offer your gifts of service to them. So it's a highly personal language. You have to know your partner, you we're not just running around doing errands. We have to understand what their pain points are and what they need extra help with, or what's going to alleviate stress for them, and that will be different person to person to person. I think that people whose love language is acts of service are really amazing collaborators. They are so naturally in tuned to noticing where support is needed, to stepping in to help, often without ever being asked to do so. They're exceptionally thoughtful, intuitive, proactive, really. They're wonderful team players who genuinely enjoy being part of something bigger and contributing to a bigger vision. And their ability to show love through practical action means that they don't just talk about ideas. They really like roll up their sleeves and help bring those visions to life, which is important we really need you know, those extra people who can move something from the realm of thought or the astral world into actual creation here on the planet. So when we think about acts of service, we often think about it taking place within an environment with lots of people, where there is this collaborative opportunity, and that may make some introverted people think, well, that's definitely not me. But I think acts of service can show up in examples like the people who just decide one day to devote their lives to planting trees to restore an entire forest, all on their own. I mean, we've heard of several stories of that, and no one even knows that they're doing it for 40 plus years, and they may never even get any credit. I'm sure there are so many people who are contributing and gifting their acts of service in conservation, and we never even know about it, but they're showing their love in a way that all can benefit from, for the purposes of the next generation, for the purposes of the environment, for the world to benefit, not for, you know, selfish desire. And I think that this really shows up in people as well who are drawn to animal rescues or animal conservation that they want to help those that really need it, and that includes all the special beings on our planet. But more than anything, the acts of service, love language reminds me of the spiritual archetype of the Bodhisattva, which is a compassionate soul who chooses service as their sacred path. A bodhisattva is a term from Buddhist teachings that refers to an enlightened being who, out of this gift of deep compassion, dedicates themselves to helping others achieve spiritual liberation, to achieve freedom from suffering, and rather than seeking personal enlightenment alone, because they have achieved that level, they're able to become one with all again, they choose to remain connected to the world. Called embodying kindness, embodying service, being a beacon of unconditional love to help others, and like the Bodhisattva, people with this love language naturally channel love and healing energy through everyday actions. They intuitively sense where they're most needed. And there's something really inspiring in the way that they take ordinary tasks, these things that we have to do every day, and somehow turn it into this greater act of love and devotion and that touches everyone around them. It's just an energy that uplifts powerful, powerful stuff, if this is your love language. Now let's explore that from the spiritual side. So in the spiritual sense, acts of service can be experienced more directly in five ways. So there's five different things that you can do, or practices that may really resonate with you that help you feel more deeply connected to your higher self, to the divine. So let's talk about these five ways. The first one is connecting with Ascended Masters. So this is about tuning into the wisdom, to the loving examples, the inspiration that we have of the Ascended Masters, those are the enlightened beings who've dedicated themselves to serving humanity, to guiding spiritual growth, to help people to excel and grow their consciousness. So if this is your love language, by drawing inspiration from their lives, from their teachings, you are connecting to this higher vibration of service and compassion. When you align yourself with the energy of figures, whether it's Quan Yin or Jesus or Krishna or Buddha or Tara or whoever really resonates with you, you open yourself up to becoming a channel for this compassionate energy, for guidance, for support, gives you that inspiration to continue to keep going, to be this beautiful beacon of love. On the other side, sometimes we need that model that we can aspire to that really pushes us out of our comfort zone when we're tired, or we're just kind of done giving, or we're over it, you know, having the thought of, you know, what would the divine? What would these embodiments of the divine in the Ascended Masters? How would they respond to this moment? And it allows us to rise up to a deeper place. So connecting with Ascended Masters, bringing that you know, statuary, in bringing that model, in learning about them, and just connecting more with those that resonate with you can be really helpful. The second is the philosophy of seva, or selfless service. So Seva is a Sanskrit word that means selfless service, and it's just a spiritual practice that's rooted in offering kindness and compassion without expectation, without the desire for reward. It's just this mindful act of giving freely. So whether that's volunteering your time at a soup kitchen, helping clean up at a local park or pick up trash down the road. We had some people doing that just a few days ago, and it was amazing to see so many people really dedicated to just cleaning up. It wasn't one or two, it was like 10 people all out there, which was really awesome to see. It was nice to see that this time or it can just be quietly, you know, helping someone who is struggling, spending extra time or investing more in people who need your help, seva helps to strengthen our spiritual heart. Through selfless acts, you become like a sacred instrument, this vessel of divine love that's extending that loving energy outward into the world. And it's a beautiful gift. It's something that the act, in and of itself, is great reward to be able to offer that to others. So we have the connection with Ascended Masters, SEVA and selfless service. And number three is creating or stewarding sacred space for others. I really love this one. When you create or you hold sacred space, whether you're building a stupa, a medicine wheel, you're hosting spiritual retreats, you're leading a Reiki share, you're performing a special act of spiritual service. You're intentionally curating and protecting an environment where others can safely connect with their spiritual nature. They can heal. They can expand their consciousness in a safe space, stewarding, say. Space could also mean nourishing people at retreats, tending a meditation garden, or simply creating an inviting, spiritually nourishing place in your home, that offering from your heart and that stewardship supports the spiritual journeys of the people around you, and can really give them space to make big shifts, to go to the next level in their life. When people feel safe, they're allowing themselves a whole new level of growth, and that is incredible to witness. It's an honor to be able to create that kind of sacred space for others, either physically or also in how we hold space for other people. And maybe you don't have physical space that you can offer for this purpose, and you don't have to, you can help steward special places too. So lots of retreat centers across the world welcome volunteers. They need that help. They would love to have people come and be hands and hearts in retreat centers, the Amitabha stupa and Peace Park here in Sedona welcomes volunteers and you can become a part of holding important space for other people, especially the places that mean something special to you. To be able to contribute to that is pretty phenomenal. Number four is meta meditation, or chanting and praying for other people. If you've been with our podcast for a while, you've definitely heard us talk about the value of meta meditation. It's sometimes called a loving kindness meditation. It involves chanting or praying or visualizing the well being of others with deep intention, it really helps us to grow our heart, to send waves of kindness and healing to individuals, to communities and the world as a whole, which is so needed right now. The world is so hungry for that love right now, and when you practice meta, you're engaging in that spiritual act of service by intentionally radiating that love and positive energy outward. And it's a beautiful reminder of how our thoughts and intentions can uplift other people, even if at a distance. It doesn't matter how far away they are, whether you've even met them before, we can still offer positive energy to benefit them. We did an episode on this called meta meditation for forgiveness, episode 160 and if you would like to learn more about that practice, or you really want to work on healing, or if you are just feeling really stressed right now, please listen to meta meditation for forgiveness, episode 160 because it is a practice that really eases so much of our our heart right now, I found it really helpful as a practice in this kind of world at the moment. Now, you may feel guided to meta meditation, or you could feel guided to dedicate your mantra chanting practice to someone on behalf of someone. It's a similar gift of energy and love that you're sharing. I know every time that I talk to my aunt, she tells me that she prays for me every night, and that really means so much to me. It's a selfless and loving gift that she gives me every night. She holds me in her heart. And so if you do that for others, it is a beautiful gift that you're giving. So whether it's meta meditation, whether you are dedicating your mantra practice to others or meditating for others benefit, or simply praying for them, that can be an incredible gift of service. And the last one, number five is prayer flags and peace poles. Hanging prayer flags or installing peace poles is just another simple but a powerful form of spiritual service. Traditionally, prayer flags are these pieces of fabric that carry blessings, intentions and prayers that are spread by the wind. So every time the wind blows through them, it's sending that healing vibration and that intention to all beings who encounter it, and just kind of sends that wave of loving energy out and peace poles also broadcast a message of harmony and hope and just affirm that intention of peace and unity and ground it into the earth, and it just broadcasts that message out into the environment. As we do that, it's this continuously performed act of service. So just by hanging it up, or just by installing the poll. It's you're sending that out constantly, which I think is really, really a big bang for the buck in the amount of, you know, time you're putting in. It's the intention of that action and how it carries forward your your love and your intention for the world that's really beautiful, and you're allowing that in. Intention to impact the environment around you for the benefit of all, and hopefully it reminds you also, in moments of weakness, of your greater intentions out into the world. So just to recap, we can experience acts of service really directly in our connection with Ascended Masters through save a selfless service, through creating or stewarding sacred space for other people in meta meditation or dedicated spiritual practice for others, prayer flags and peace poles. And I like to also share some of the different dialects that Dr Chapman speaks about in the God speaks your love language book, and mainly his recommendation for acts of service is spiritually inspired volunteering. So in the book, he uses examples like cooking for others or building things or using your special skills, whatever they happen to be, as being an act of service. And I think volunteering in ways that align with your spiritual values or your intuition, like conservation projects, community gardens, hospice volunteering. I know so many beautiful healers who are hospice volunteers. It reflects this deep spiritual calling. People with acts of service, love language, often intuitively know. They just know where their presence and efforts are the most needed, and serving in that capacity is a profound way of just channeling spiritual guidance into real world impact to really being able to make a difference, which so many of us just that's what we want, is a legacy of having been able to make a difference to someone in the world energetically to support them in a greater way of being and expressing themselves. And you can think about your particular skills, the gifts that you have, and see how you're inspired to help. Or if there's a population that you feel really needs your support, maybe people who have been forgotten, who just need some hands to be on site. Or maybe you know what your skill set is more mental. It's not as like, let me just sit here and build a house for you instead. It's you know, let me help manage your social media. I've done that volunteer work before let me help assist in a website creation. So there's a lot of mental things that can be acts of service, too. And that brings me to something that I'd love for you to reflect on this week. So whether acts of service is your primary level language or not, I think there's really powerful growth and healing when we learn to express our love through meaningful action, through thoughtful service, through intentionality. So I want you to take a moment and just connect with yourself and ask on that deeper level, when was the last time it really felt like your hands your heart were a channel for something greater to work through you. And how can your spirit expand if you just view some of these acts of kindness and service as opportunities to connect more with yourself, the higher self of others, the universe, so seeing service as connection. Now maybe it's consciously choosing one compassionate deed that you can do each day, or just quietly offering your help to someone who needs it. Maybe it's shoveling a neighbor's driveway. Maybe it's watching a friend's dog while they're out of town, or creating sacred space for someone else. Maybe it's building a labyrinth and inviting others to come and enjoy and appreciate the work that you've done and the energy that you're holding there. Perhaps it's dedicating your meditation or prayers towards the well being of other people. But whatever speaks to you, I encourage you to practice one small spiritual act of service this week, and just notice how that deepens your sense of connection, not only to others, but also to your own spirit, to the part of you that wants to generously Give and wants to acknowledge your connection in the web of life, how you can contribute generously, fully with your heart and with your hands. And of course, if you know people whose primary love language is acts of service, share this episode with them. Let them know there is so much more depth and beauty to explore in this love language when we take it to the next level, which I think it's a good time for us to do that now, next time we are going to explore the spiritual side of the gifts love language. So we still have a lot to uncover. We have gifts still coming, and we also have quality time. But if you'd like to review the. Other love languages, feel free. Those are already published and available for you, so stay tuned. We still have a lot to uncover, and I would love to hear your thoughts, personally, your insights about your love language. You can share them with me at Instagram,@SedonaMedium, or on Facebook at Sedona Medium. All right, everyone sending you so much love, light and blessings this week. See you next time many blessings.
