The Spirituality of the Love Languages: Gifts #232

Christina Wooten and Robert Wooten Season 4 Episode 232

We’d love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show!

Let’s talk about the love language of gifts — often misunderstood and sometimes dismissed as materialistic. But what if I told you it’s actually deeply connected to abundance, reciprocity, and the powerful flow of giving and receiving? People with this love language are often more than just gift-givers; they’re cultivating a dynamic energy of generosity, where both the act of giving and receiving creates a beautiful exchange that reflects the abundance of the universe.

In this episode, we’ll dive into how the love language of gifts isn’t just about the physical gifts — it’s about opening ourselves to the expansive energy of abundance that flows through us when we share with others. Gifts are a sacred expression of love and connection, and through them, we can tap into a deeper sense of generosity, joy, and spiritual alignment. It’s a love language that encourages us to receive as much as we give — and when we do, we unlock a richer, more fulfilling relationship with Spirit.

In episode four of our special five-part series on the Spirituality of the Love Languages, we're diving into Gifts.  By embracing the power of gifts, you’ll experience a fuller flow of abundance — not just materially, but spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

Your hosts, certified psychic medium Christina Wooten and Reiki master teacher Robert Wooten, break down how to work with spirit to create more positive growth in your life, consider this podcast your go to spiritual resource for navigating the modern world. Hey there, kindred spirits. Welcome to Modern Life and Spirit podcast. It's Christina Wooten, certified psychic medium from SedonaMedium.com Welcome to our episode today. We have so much to talk about in our special series. It's been really wonderful to be able to do a series where we could dive deeply and spend some time in each of these areas. So this has been really, really fun for me. I hope that you have enjoyed this deep dive into the spirituality of the love languages. But I'm not sure if it is because mercury has finally gone direct, or whether it was just we recently had a cold snap and then now it got warm again, I'm not sure, but I have felt so inspired recently, like just, I'm ready for welcoming springtime. I hung up my hummingbird feeders, and we have had so many visitors already. I mean, within the first hour, we had our first hummingbirds eating, and that was so just heartwarming. You know, it's really amazing to be able to interact with nature and to provide a gift for nature. And I didn't say all of this as a segue into that we're talking about gifts today, but it just kind of comes out that, that this was kind of a gift, maybe, that I was giving to the land, and also, in turn, being able to receive the blessing of seeing the hummingbirds come and enjoy the feeder. The one question I have, so I have one in the front, one in the back, for people who are the hummingbird experts help me understand this. So I know that there's lots of people in Sedona who have all of these feeders, and they so many of the hummingbirds will just come up and share. You know, you'll have three or so up on one feeder. And I don't understand that, because our Hummingbirds are possessive, and maybe it's that we just need more feeders so that they won't feel quite as possessive, I'm not sure. But if you know, if you have a crowd of hummingbirds that are always visiting your feeders and they're not running each other off, please send me a message and let me know what your secret is. I want to see all of them. So I'm not sure what it is. It's probably that I just need more feeders. But if you know, please let me know before we get started, I did want to remind you that if you are interested in registering for our in person Reiki energy healing classes for the fall, please go to Sedona medium.com and make sure that you save your spot, because it is very limited space. So I just want to make sure, if this is on your radar, to go ahead and make sure you register. So we're talking some really powerful healing energy and amazing time to be in Sedona receiving this energetic attunement that's going to raise your personal frequency and vibration. So a great time to come. And yes, of course, I designed it for lining up with this perfect healing time. And for those that have already taken Reiki one and two with me, or for anyone else of the Sui Tibetan Reiki tradition, I invite you to join us for the intensive Reiki master training on October 18 and 19th. But now is the time to go ahead and book your lodging and make sure that you are registered to continue expanding your healing and intuitive abilities. Okay, all that being said, let's talk about the special love language series that we have been doing. So this week is part four of our special series. In this we are exploring the five love languages, not just in our relationship with others, but in how we experience and express love, in our connection with spirit. So I'm sharing some of the nuggets of wisdom that I got from the book God speaks your Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and also my insights as a psychic medium, intuition teacher and energy practitioner. So please make sure you listen to episode one that really introduces the concept more deeply of what we're talking about here, which is especially important if you aren't as familiar with the love languages. To begin with, the first episode, we dove into the love language of physical touch. In the second episode, we talked about words of affirmation. Last week we covered acts of service, and this week, we are sharing about the love language of gifts. If you aren't familiar with the five love languages, which were first introduced by Dr Gary Chapman, I'll give you just a really brief synopsis of the concept. But. Concept of The Five Love Languages is that they reveal the unique ways that we give and receive love in our relationships. So each of us has a natural preference, whether it's through words, actions, time, touch or gifts, that makes us feel really deeply seen and appreciated in our relationships. So when we understand our own love language as well as the love language of the people that are very close with us, we create more fulfilling, harmonious relationships. And what we're exploring in this episode is how to apply that understanding to our spiritual connection and our relationship with the divine. So the divine, of course, speaks all of the love languages, but we may feel it best. We may feel that connection best when we are speaking and receiving love in our own natural love language. So in this series, we're looking at what practices can help you more fully dive into expressing this language and getting the benefits of that in your spiritual life. Or for those that want to just more fluently, learn to speak the many different love languages without being limited to one or two languages, you are welcome here too. So in this episode, we're diving into the love language of gifts. This is such a fascinating love language because it isn't about materialistic things at all. And a lot of people assume that they don't resonate with this particular love language because they're connecting it with materialism, but it's because this is a very misunderstood love language. There is a judgment that sometimes exists, that people with this love language are materialistic, or that loving them would be really expensive. But this could not be further from the truth. People with this love language are often actually incredibly sentimental. They treasure memories, shared experiences, small, little tokens that symbolize really big feelings within them. And while the words gifts describes the mechanics of what's happening, there's an exchange. I've often wished that Dr Chapman had named this love language, something like sentimental attachment, because that would have been much more accurate and I think, relatable to people, they would understand and maybe have less judgment around this love language, because it's all very unnecessary to help you think about it differently. Let's imagine this so you go on a special trip, you have saved your money, you've worked really hard. Being there is just a dream fulfilled. And while you're there, you find a little souvenir. Maybe it's not flashy or very expensive, but it's something that when you use it or you see it later, it makes you, you know feel good. It makes you smile. You remember how you felt. You remember who you were with the laughs that you had, the silly memories, the weird detours along the way, and that souvenir that you bought becomes this physical anchor for all of that love and for all of that joy of that moment that is the heart of this love language. Now expand that to gifts that you receive from others. So maybe someone gave you a crystal bracelet with a stone for healing because they knew you were going through something particular, or they wanted to support you in some way. And when you wear it, you don't just see the bracelet, right? You see the care, the presence, the love that came with it, the how your friend knows you. It's beautiful. It's beautiful that just seeing that becomes this anchor for all of these really great feelings of gratitude and appreciation and feeling seen and feeling loved and feeling understood. So chances are that you have already been speaking this love language without even realizing it. Maybe you drop off soup for a sick friend when you grab your partner's favorite snack just because, or when you send flowers to somebody that you know has had a really hard week or they're going through a tough patch, this love language is just sweet and thoughtful. And with this episode, I hope that we can dispel the myth that it's all about money, because for people who resonate with this language, it never has been. So let me share two personal examples. So several months ago, a dear friend who had lost their husband came over for dinner and she brought me a beautiful Selenite wand, a gift that she didn't have to give, but it's. One that I will cherish forever, not just because I love crystals and I do, I do, but because I love who gave it to me so it carries her energy, her love, and that's what matters to me deeply. Now, to be clear, my love language is not gifts, but I've grown to really respect this love language, because it took me a while to understand it. And then there's my Mimi, who's my grandmother who's passed away, but one year, she gifted my sister a gallon size bag full of plastic utensil kits. You know what I'm talking about. It's the fork and the knife and the spoon and the napkin like all wrapped up. It was just bag full of these utensil kits. See, my sister brought lunch to school every single day. She was still in high school, and my Mimi had been quietly collecting those utensil kits all year just to make her life a little bit easier. So at that time, it may have seemed really small, but now as an adult, it makes me really emotional, because that bag was filled with love that every day, every opportunity she could, she grabbed those wrapped utensils to just make it one bit easier, and every time she did it, she was thinking about trying to help someone around her and show that she cared, that she loved them, and that's what this language is all about. What I think is really neat about people whose love language is gifts is that, of course, it's not just about receiving gifts, okay? It's about gifting and expressing themselves and their love through gifts, and they naturally seem to excel and also be a little bit intuitive about noticing these details about people, and sometimes picking up on really subtle cues about what brings others joy. And they often express those things through creativity, thoughtfulness, generosity, and just have this intuitive knack for finding just the right gift to help someone around them, or to uplift them or inspire them, or just kind of speak to what their needs are. There is such an intuitiveness to that. And I think that you know around the holidays, we're all like wanting more of that intuitive gift. So if you have people who are nearby, who are love language gift, people make sure you tap that incredible intuitive talent that they have, spiritually, I see this love language reflected in traditions that have been a part of our collective human story for centuries. Many indigenous cultures, for example, offer sacred herbs, tobacco, corn meal, to the land as a prayer of gratitude or as an offering when asking for guidance, it's a recognition of the Spirit that exists within nature, and the understanding that we as people live in relationship with the earth. And in other traditions, people tend to use shrines and altars with offerings of fruit and flowers and incense or light, gifts of beauty and reverence that are given to the divine. And these are not transactional acts. They are true expressions of heart, of devotion, of love and acknowledgement. And at another spiritual level, the love language of gifts reflects something foundational as well the sacred energy of reciprocity. When we give with intention and receive with openness, we participate in a natural flow of abundance in the universe, it's not just about the object. It's this energetic exchange that happens through the giving, and when we receive with gratitude, that energy magnifies, and it becomes a circuit of love, of spiritual connection that keeps flowing. So whether you're offering something to a loved one, to spirit, to the land itself. You're participating in this dance of giving and receiving and this ultimate symbol of abundance. And what's so beautiful is that it teaches us something important, that we are not alone in the world. We are in this constant interconnection. We're in constant relationship with it and all that is now let's explore this from the spiritual perspective. So if this is your love language, something that would be beneficial for you is sacred offerings. Across many spiritual traditions, making offerings to the Divine is a. A symbolic and a very heartfelt practice, whether it's placing flowers on that altar, whether it's lighting a candle, offering incense, leaving food for the ancestors, these acts of devotion carry an energetic imprint. It's not about the object specifically that you're offering. It's about the intention, the reverence, the love, the gratitude behind it, and offering something of value becomes that sacred exchange. So it's a moment of acknowledgement of your relationship and your responsibility in your relationship with the divine. And for those whose spiritual loving which is gifts, this is a way to connect to spirit through the ritual of giving, creating that bridge for you between our world and the world of spirit, and for people who feel the divine more through the lens of the earth or more from a shamanic perspective, it could also look like making offering to the earth or to the animals, like hanging up hummingbird feeders or leaving water out for the animals. But when we make offerings from the heart, that energy always comes back to us. And then some. There's a practice in gardening as well that I think connects with this, where you plant a certain number or certain percentage of extra plants that you know are going to be offered out to the animals who are grazing or sacrifice to them in exchange for the fact that you are harvesting a certain amount, you're planting a certain amount as well that can be partaken of by the animals around and that's a beautiful way of again, giving thanks, giving thanks for your Harvest. All right, so our first one is sacred offering. So making those gifts to the earth, to the Divine, to spirit, whatever way feels resonant for you. Number two is receiving spiritual tools or symbols. So sometimes Spirit gives us gifts in the form of some of the sacred tools that we use in our personal practice. Or, if you're a healer, the things that you use in your healing practice or to help other people. It could be an Oracle deck that just calls your name and really connects with you and resonates to your energy and is so accurate for you. It could be a crystal that you're just inexplicably drawn to and feel like you can't put down at the store. Or it can be a book that shows up at the right time, and you just think, Oh, I was just talking about this the other day. These items can carry a certain medicine, a certain spirit to them, and they can be that physical reminder of the support, the guidance, the love from the universe. When your love language is gifts, receiving something symbolic or something that's spiritually charged, especially if it's in a synchronistic way, really does feel like a personal sign from spirit. But the key with this is that you have to be paying attention and using your discernment to know when something is intended for you, and that also means that we have to be able to release and let go and not attach to something that isn't intended for us. So I'm a rock hound, which means that I'm constantly, like, walking around, looking down my feet, or looking down at the different stones and so forth. That's how I find a lot of pottery pieces and so forth here in my yard, because I'm always looking at the rocks. But there are occasionally things that I'll pick up and just, oh, it's so beautiful. It has such a great energy. I love this, and I'll feel inside this isn't for me. I have to leave it. I have to put it back down, and that's hard, but it makes those moments, when it is for me, feel even more special. It gives that such an energy of ah, this is my vibe. This is my frequency. This is perfectly intended for me that makes it even more of a gift. So number one is sacred offerings. Number two is receiving our spiritual tools or symbols. Number three is intention infused objects, for those who express their love through giving the act of creating something and gifting it to another person. Can feel really intimate. This can be a handmade prayer bead strand, a written blessing, a Reiki charged candle. It can be a thoughtfully chosen object that is. Just meant to support someone's healing journey. But when you infuse an item, when you're creating it with energy, with love, with intention, you're turning something ordinary into something really special. And when someone receives it, they often they can feel that care. They can feel the essence that is imbued in that gift, and it becomes a blessing that gives to them again and again and again. It's very, very special when we have something that is really created specifically for us. If you're that person who struggles with creating things, or, you know, you have a vision, but it just doesn't seem to come together when you sit down with all of your objects to get started crafting something, or designing it, or commissioning a piece from another artist. Can also be something that you know connects with this, that intention infused objects where you're creating something really special for someone and very customized to them, is very beautiful. Number four is signs from spirit. Sometimes the most meaningful gifts that we get don't come from people, but it comes from the universe itself. So maybe that could be a feather on your path, a really well timed song lyric, a repeating number pattern, or coins that you find just when you're really needing some reassurance or you're just needing to feel more connected. These are all special signs for someone whose spiritual love language is gifts. Those little, small, magical signs really feel like little love notes from the other side that again, it's that tangible reminder that you are being guided, that you're being watched over, that you are supported. And the best signs often arrive at just the right moment when you are asking for clarity or comfort, and they offer that sense of awe and connection that goes beyond just the physical object, because it's not about if you find a coin, it's not about the coin itself. It's about how it got there, the time that it came into your life, how important you are to the other side, to manifest such a beautiful acknowledgement of your journey and how loved you are. That is what that coin represents, and our last one is gratitude as a practice, creating a gratitude list. I know we've heard it a million times, and it may seem like a simple practice, but it is important to people with gifts. Love Language, because it is your act of acknowledging the many gifts in your life, both the seen and the unseen that you have been given. When your spiritual love language is gifts, this practice becomes a way to deepen receptivity, to recognize the abundance that flows into your life every day it might be gratitude for the food on your table, for having a safe place to rest, for the kindness of a friend, having the best cashier that day that checks you out of the grocery store, but also it's about those intangible things, so inner peace, clarity after the storm, a moment of beauty that really touched you or moved you. Writing those things down becomes more of a reflection, and it becomes a way of honoring that flow that we talked about, the flow of abundance, the flow of love and grace that's in your life actively. And it's a way to say, I see these blessings, I'm receiving them with openness, thank you, and that vibration just creates even more resonance. With that energy of of love and exchange and abundance flowing to you. When you do a gratitude list regularly, you get into the habit of really looking for things that make you feel grateful, and those are things, not just externally, but internally. And you begin to see yourself differently, and you begin to see your circumstances differently, and you begin to be in that deeper flow of abundance that is changing your vibration. It's changing your energy. One of the most powerful vibrations we saw from Dr emotos work. Please look it up if you are not familiar with messages from water by Dr Emoto is that the most profound. Vibration when the most transformative energies, the most transformative vibration is love and gratitude on physical matter that is important. So imagine what you're doing in your body when you really align with this energy. Imagine what you're doing to your vibration when you're living more in alignment with those higher principles of natural law. Wow, that is big stuff. So simple, yes, but don't overlook it very big in our energy field, especially for those with this powerful love language. So I like to share some of the different dialects that Dr Chapman speaks about in God speaks your love language. And of course, if you have financial resources, you can offer monetary gifts to others. That's you know, one big recommendation, right? And you can support the people or the communities that you believe in, or you can pay attention for opportunities that you can contribute to, like go fund mes that connect with your personal mission. Maybe you can align with other organizations which help fund women owned businesses or help fund people in third world countries who are seeking more financial independence, but if you don't have extra financial resources, that's okay. You can gift the world and people and communities that you love with other things. So don't be caught up in the limit or the idea of it is being materialistic or having to be centered around money. You can give the world other things. You can give encouragement or other gestures that are sharing some of your many resources that you do have access to, your internal resources, and also your material resources that you have access to Now, here's what I want you to integrate as you go deeper into working with this love language. It's important to recognize that when you're aligned with the gifts love language, whether you are asking for help in prayer, whether you're calling in support from your guides, whether you're working with manifestation, your intention matters deeply. The most powerful prayers and manifestations are always rooted in generosity, in love and in service. It's not just about what you want to give. It's about why you want to give it when your desire is fueled by the wish to uplift other people, to nurture your relationships, to share your light more fully with the world, the energy gets amplified. For example, instead of simply saying, I need more time off for myself, you might say, I ask for more time so that I can create loving memories with my family and be really present with them. There's a huge energetic difference that I want more time off versus I ask for more time so that I can create loving memories with my family and be fully present with them. And that is important, that's an offering of your energy, your attention, your presence as a sacred gift. And when the motive is generous, the spiritual flow of giving and receiving opens even wider. You become more in the flow of abundance and receiving and deeper connection. So that brings us to something I'd love for you to reflect on this week, whether gifts is your primary love language or not, there's powerful growth when we learn to express through the spirit of generosity. So I want you to take a moment and just gently ask yourself, how might my spirit open even more if I viewed giving and receiving as a spiritual practice, one that keeps me in rhythm with the universe, being in rhythm with the universe, maybe it's creating or choosing a meaningful gift for someone that you love and infusing it with intention before you pass it along. Maybe it's noticing and acknowledging the spiritual gifts that you have already received, like guidance or beauty, friendship, healing, expressing your thanks through a gratitude practice. Or maybe it's just pausing when a feather crosses your path or when the message arrives at the right time, and letting yourself fully receive that moment as the sacred gift that it is, not focusing on the thing, but on what it means behind it, that deeper connection. So whatever resonates with you, I encourage you to engage. With this energy of giving, with generosity, with receiving, this week in a way that feels spiritually alive for you, notice how the universe speaks through the gifts that you are given, and how your offerings, no matter how small, ripple outward as love in the world. And of course, if you know people whose primary love language is gifts, make sure you share this episode with them so that they can understand there's so much more depth and beauty to explore in their love language, and it may help others who have struggled with the misconception that the gifts love language is materialistic, or people who've rejected it within themselves because they felt like they were so limited by their financial resources that they didn't know how to express that out into the world. Next time we're going to explore the spiritual side of quality time the last of our love language series. So stay tuned. We still have that to cover. I would love to hear your thoughts, your insights about your love language. You can share them with me at Instagram, at Sedona medium, or Facebook at Sedona medium, and of course, if you are enjoying this series, if you're getting a lot out of this episode, please take a moment to rate and review wherever you're listening to this podcast.
