Creating a Sanctuary for Spirit #247
We’d love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show!
Some places just feel different, right? Like the moment you step into a cozy yoga studio or that one little crystal shop you love, your whole nervous system goes, “Ahhh, yessss.” And then there are places—like the bright, noisy big box stores—where the energy can be overstimulating and distracting. You can almost feel your auric field shrink inward!
That’s not a coincidence. That’s energy. The space around you matters a lot—especially when you’re doing intuitive or spiritual work. It's also often something that gets overlooked.
In this episode, we’re getting into how to create your own sacred space—a sanctuary that actually supports your nervous system, nurtures your connection with Spirit, and amplifies your connection with the other side. That leads to better readings, better meditations, and deeper level work. Whether you have the luxury of a whole room or a small corner devoted to Spirit, we’ll talk about the little things that make a big impact.
Whether you’re just starting to build a space dedicated for spiritual connection or looking to breathe new life into one you’ve had for years, you'll find solid direction in this episode.

Consider this podcast your go to spiritual resource for navigating the modern world. Hey
Christina Wooten:Hey there, kindered spirits. Welcome to Modern Life and Spirit podcast. It's Christina Wooten, certified psychic medium from Sedona medium.com I'm so glad that you are here. Welcome to the episode today. I know your guides are happy that you're here. We are going to be talking about an important component that gets overlooked most of the time when people start really focusing and emphasizing the growth and development, working with their spirit guides, or making more concerted efforts with their loved ones on the other side. And this overlooked element can make a big difference in how successful you are, how challenging it can feel, where you feel like you're pulling teeth, or how easy things seem to flow. It's not always just our energy. Sometimes it's how our energy is being impacted in a space as well. We always want to put our energy in a place that's going to be exalted, that it's going to be supported and being strong, vibrant, open, clear and receptive, rather than environments that can take away some of that element, or take away some of our energy, or we feel like we have to kind of fight something that's already there, or we get distracted by things, because that is going to impact how much energy you have to just be completely clear, receptive and open. So we're talking today about your environment. What it is that helps to create a space where you can be more successful in your spirit work, and just put that on the forefront of your thoughts. So maybe you have a space already that you're already using for your intuitive work, your journaling, your personal practices, your meditation space, your time of talking with your guides, your Oracle Card readings or your healing work, whatever it is, but you know, it's always a good time to just check back in and see how the energy has shifted and changed and evolved every year. We know from a Feng Shui perspective that the energy of our spaces shifts and change, and everything is always evolving. How we're interacting with a space is always evolving. So if you've kind of had things be the same for the last couple of years, it's a good time to just bring fresh eyes and a fresh heart to does the space physically and energetically support you right now in the way that it currently is. If it does wonderful, you've got kind of a check mark that you can put on things, and you know you're in alignment for right now. But if not, if you haven't created a space for yourself, or if you get the message that things aren't in alignment for you, it's a good time to just recognize how that may be impacting how open, receptive and clear you are in your work with the other side, the energy of our environment can amplify energy, or it can hinder that intuitive flow and how information comes to us depending again, how clear and open we are, the body is also constantly picking up on all of these subtle cues from the environment, and that affects the clarity in our auric field and in our energy, in what we are picking up. So if something is out of alignment your body, your aura, your energy, is feeling that even if your mind has blocked it out. So think about that area, that that junk drawer you have, or that place where all things just sort of end up, the things you're not sure exactly what to do with, and so you just set it here, and are like, Oh, I'll come back to that eventually, right? Our mind can tune that out. It can kind of overlook it, because we expect to see this clutter there, or this, you know, stale energy there, but our bodies and our auric field is still interacting really directly with that, and so we can't tune that out from that perspective, and that does make a difference in what we're receiving. Any type of psychic and intuitive work requires receptivity. It requires a safe and energetically clean place that supports that, that elevates your inner. Energy so that it's not fighting against the stuff that's in the room. It's Free to lift itself up and meet spirit in the middle. Another advantage of thinking about where you're practicing and where your work zone is for your spirit stuff is that when you do work in a space consistently, you will notice that your guides can build these layers of energy in that space that, over time, allows them to make easier connections with you, and that also gives them a good clue that when you sit down in this one space, in this one area, and maybe you touch your oracle cards, or you grab your journal, it's telling them All right, guys, it's time for us to get ready. We better get moving and shaking, because she's ready to receive she's about to open up so we can share our messages with her. So it gives them some important clues when you have a regular space to work from, but also like they can build energy into that space that just makes it easier for you to be able to connect with them and them to be able to connect with you. Now, those are things that only can happen when you work from a space consistently. Now, does that mean that you can only work from that space ever? No, it doesn't. But if you have the option, and you are in the area, work from a regular space, because it can help you in these subtle ways that maybe you're not recognizing because you don't know all the work that spirit is having to do behind the scenes to help you, to help you, to make that deeper connection with them. And of course, remember that when you do work from a place consistently, you really get to know the baseline energy of that room or that area that you're working in. So you're more likely to notice subtle shifts and subtle changes in that so you can notice more when spirit steps into the room, because you're going to notice something shifted in the atmosphere, something changed in a way that you might not notice it if you're constantly bouncing from one chair to another, going to Another room, another space, all the time, because you're constantly just adapting to the energy that is available there. When you get to know a space psychically, energetically, it's a lot easier for you to tell when something is off, when something has changed, when someone has moved into the space, when it needs a cleanse, because you know what the base vibration of that space is and can be. So working from a particular area and environment makes a big difference. So here's some things I want you to think about for your space now, or something that you are considering creating. And the first one is the energetic hygiene and cleanliness of the space. So you want to make sure that the area that you're in has a good vibration, has a good energy from its baseline. So it's not in an area that you generally have a tendency to avoid, not want to be around, feel kind of funky in. It's a place where you like to be, where you feel uplifted, where you feel excited to be there. That's going to help you a lot. It's already lifting your vibration and lifting your energy to be there. So think about where you're already reacting what is kind of a no energy for you in your space that's not very conducive to feeling excited to be there and having a high vibration. And what are places that you feel enthusiastic about being that feels really open and positive and uplifting for you, because those are the best spaces to work with and modify for your energetic processes. Another thing to think about is, is it free of clutter? Because clutter energy, like we talked about, it's not just a distraction for your mind, because there's lots of things that you know, colors and and stuff that might get your attention while you're really trying to focus on the subtle things that are happening, but also you're going to be feeling all of that. You can feel the chaos that comes from clutter in our bodies and in the auric field that is going to be a distraction from what you really need to focus on. So the clearer, the cleaner things are, the better. Now, does that mean that you can't be a fabulous maximalist. No, you know, be who you truly are, but consider how important is that you need space around your body, so maybe you have a maximalist fun altar space, but the area where you sit is several feet away. From that, so that that gives you a little bit of visual, mental and other space from that. So think about that and clear everything else that you don't need that is distracting you visually, or is distracting you in how your body and energy feels, if it makes sure auric field kind of retract towards yourself. That's going to make your energy smaller, and it's going to make it much harder for you to connect with the other side. So we don't want that. And then, of course, we want to make sure that it's clean of any stagnant energy. So again, this is why it's great to already be thinking about a place you enjoy being because you're already going to have energy moving in that space. And if you enjoy being there, it's probably a nice, high vibrational area or place that has positive energy to begin with. It's usually the places that are really stagnant and kind of funky that we avoid to begin with. So think about that area for yourself. But we want to keep that energy flowing and keep things moving. So smudging, or doing Reiki, doing sound healing, or just working with intention, to make sure that that energy is regularly moving, especially if you're doing energetic work there, is going to make a big difference, because, again, you are lifting and letting go of the heavy stuff and keeping that vibration nice and fresh and easy for you to connect. So it's a nice clean palette, with the exception of what your spirit guides are kind of adding in there regularly to help you and lift your vibration. Another thing to think about that people really forget is how comfortable and how safe you feel in that space. Feeling physically comfortable helps you to open your intuitive channels. It helps your body to dial down to relax. It helps your nervous system not be on high alert and kind of melt a little bit and in the beginning of development, that can make a really big difference, because our body and our mind can be extremely distracting. When our mind gets into our work, it really changes the meaning of what we might be getting. So we think we're getting one thing, and then our mind twists it into something else, and then we're frustrated about why did that not turn out how I thought it was going to Well, it's because your mind has gotten in the way. We want to use this space to help the mind and the body to be able to be at peace and relax. So think about things from a sensory perspective that help you to relax, soft blankets, things that make you feel really cozy, very comfortable chairs. Now I've seen so many meditation chairs that are the most uncomfortable things I've just ever sat in I went to a place one time that esthetically gorgeous, beautiful, just filled with all of these very, very expensive meditation chairs and sit down in so uncomfortable it would be the worst place to do some of that work, because it just doesn't work right? So we need something that supports your body, that allows your body to melt in a little bit, to give that signal to your body that, hey, everything's okay. Here we can get nice and we can get comfortable, cozy blankets, soft socks, those types of things can be really supportive. So don't neglect your sensory comforts, because it is going to make a big difference. And think about the temperature too. You want to adjust the temperature so that it is not a distraction for you as well. That makes a big difference in the beginning of development, because the biggest challenge is always going to be managing the distractions for yourself a little bit later, when you've built those channels in, things like that aren't as difficult, right, but it is important for a lot of times the first few years of your development work, another thing we talked about is just safe spaces. You need to feel safe. So when you close your eyes in that area, do you feel vulnerable or exposed? Do you feel uncomfortable like something could just walk up behind you or catch you off guard? So maybe there's a primal part in your alligator brain that is making it hard for you to relax because of the positioning of a chair or the positioning of things around you. So I want you to close your eyes in that space and really pay attention to what are the signals that your alligator brain are sending to you? Do you feel fully safe if not? Think about making some adjustments to the position of things that might help you to feel a little bit more secure. And again, I. To achieve that goal of feeling more open, more at peace, where our intuition flows. A third thing to think about is natural elements, and bringing those into the space, because that's going to lift the vibration and the natural key energy of the room, or the space that you're working from. So one thing to think about is light. So light disperses energy in a space, which can be really helpful for cleansing. It gives you that nice clear feeling when you go into a space that has a lot of open windows and a lot of open light. Yes, before we do higher level Spirit work, it actually can be very important to close the blinds, close the curtains, and give ourselves a little bit more darkness in the space, so that during our work, spirit can help to develop and build the energy that when they're building things, it's not immediately getting dispersed by that light energy filtering In and cleaning everything and sweeping it all away, right? So there can be a benefit to having a window that you can open, for example, for saging and cleansing, but also be able to close the curtains and close the shades for right before you do higher level of work, and then afterwards, when you want to disperse that energy, when you're releasing letting go, you're closing that space down, is opening the windows again, letting that light filter through, maybe even letting that fresh air filter through and release anything that might be left in the space. Consider also bringing in plants, crystals, things from the outdoors that maybe you've collected and love, that remind you of your travels, or remind you of special things in your life, or, you know, bring in a fountain, things like that, that keeps the key moving in your space. Nature really does support psychic sensitivity. It adds extra energy into a space. And when we have things that are moving, it can add this extra key. And of course, things that are alive, like plants, it can add extra energy to that too. So depending on where it is in your space, if you follow feng shui, some of those natural additions can be really beneficial and helpful. So play around with maybe something needs to move or change locations or shift it. Maybe you need to add a little bit of something natural into the space to just keep lifting that vibration. So for number four, this is a big one that I talk to my students about when they come to my course working with your spirit guides, boundaries and privacy. When you are doing Spirit work, you need to be able to avoid interruptions, to not have your phone going off like crazy, or your social media giving you notifications or just noisy environments that is going to take you out of the zone, and every time you take an out of the zone, your mind gets activated, and that comes into your reading or into your work. So it's really important that you minimize always interruptions, those notifications, noisy environments, as much as possible. So this can be where you think about if you're trying to set yourself up right beside the front door, are you going to have people coming in and out when you are deep in your altered state of consciousness, talking to your guides and finally getting somewhere and then somebody is rattling their keys and coming in and closing the door and Telling you hello before they realize what's going on. It's not the best environment. If you do need to work from an area like that, maybe you have a smaller space, which is fine. Maybe you live in a really cool, tiny home, I don't know. You want to create some sort of signal so that someone is not coming in at the moment that you are doing this deeper level work. So having a door hanger that indicates that you need privacy or you need quiet for this, or something that lets people know I'm in the middle of something right now you can come in shortly, is really helpful. Psychic work and intuitive work really thrives when you feel that you can go inward without distraction, because you can really let go on deeper levels. Your your body doesn't feel like it needs to be on guard. You don't feel like you've got to be fully present for or prepared for whatever might be happening or whatever is changing in the environment. You can just totally release and let go and go where it is that you need to go, give yourself the gift of boundaries. There's nothing more frustrating than taking a while to reach that place of deep connection, really getting where you've been trying to get. And suddenly something takes you out of it and breaks you out so you want to be. More intentional about how you communicate your boundaries and how you ask for privacy, and the last thing I want you to think about for today is just honoring your own personal energetic resonance. So trust your feelings. Some places just feel right, and you're not necessarily sure why it does. It's just, you know, this is my spot. This is my place. Sometimes the best place is more about how you set the energy than where it is. So, so think about what feels really right for you, what feels really resonant, and even if there's a space in your environment that kind of ticks all the boxes that we've talked about already, and it just doesn't feel right. That's not your space. Okay? So we want to think about and get creative. You can also put that out to your spirit guides and ask for their help. If you're feeling creatively challenged by your space to just go, Okay, wait a minute. You know, I'm looking for something that meets this criteria but also feels right. What can you help me with? So sometimes our guides can rake us out of the mental boxes that we're in and show us that there's more possibilities than we really thought that there was. So if you are really struggling, ask for their help and ask for their support, even if it means you kind of rearrange things or shift things or whatever, ask for their help and then follow through. Listen. You know it's it's always better to ask and then make sure that it's resonating with you and and follow through. Because otherwise, when we don't follow through, we create this pattern with our guides that just says, Hey, I'm not listening and hey, I'm not ready to listen. So always make sure when you ask for help that you really genuinely mean, that you're willing to follow through and that you are truly listening and indicating that you're listening to what it is that they're saying. If you are doing deeper level work in a bedroom, it may be harder for you to sleep, so one of the things that my guide showed me is that the energy when you're doing a lot of Spirit work kind of swirls around, and it can swirl around very, very fast, and that makes it very difficult to get a deeper night's rest. So ideally, if you can choose a space that is not in a bedroom, that will help you, or if it is in a bedroom, try and set up some sort of a barrier for yourself so that it's in a very defined space that maybe doesn't have wall necessarily, but you use some sort of energetic screen there to separate your bedroom area from your work area that just helps to contain some of that energy. I don't feel like in the long run, that that helps as much as just not doing it in that space. If sleep is really important to you, but it can help if that's the only option that you do have. What I hope that you take away from today is that you don't need the perfect room to connect. It doesn't have to look like a Pinterest board. It doesn't have to look like some wild, fantastical AI creation spirit will meet you wherever you are, but setting the space will help you to feel clearer and more confident and help you to get rid of some of these distractions and things that can make a difference when you are first starting out. We want to be as open as possible, as receptive as possible, as peaceful as possible. We want to sink in so our bodies and our nervous system feels so relaxed that we can reach that higher level, that in between state. So we want to support ourselves, and being able to do that and spirit will help us to do that in the space that we have. What I'd like for you to do this week is just start to pay attention. Just notice how different environments affect your intuition, and see which spaces help you to feel the most open. What is it that helps you to feel very relaxed? What helps you to feel that a room is really, really peaceful? I want you to really take note of that, and also want you to take note of what makes you close down, shut down and disconnect, and pay attention to that, because we want to amplify what it is that helps you to feel peaceful, relaxed, gentle, calm inside, and we want to decrease the things that disconnect or that gets you in The mind or gets you thinking and gets you away from that peaceful, relaxed, receptive, clear and open state. I will also tell you that I absolutely love seeing people's spaces that they set up for meditation, that they've set up for energetic work, if you. Have a special space that you would love to share. I would love to see it. You can send it to me on Instagram at Sedona medium, or send it to me through old fashioned Facebook, if you want to do that too. But I would love to see some of your spaces. And if you have questions, feel free to reach out. Thank you so much for tuning in to this episode. I did want to remind you, because I know that not everybody has heard this announcement that we are changing up our podcast format, and what that looks like is that we will be releasing new episodes in the first week of the month and the third week of the month, so in between that you can listen to our other episodes and enjoy whatever topic you're interested in at the moment, but all of our new episodes will be coming out the first week of the month and the third week of the month. All right, everyone, thanks so much for joining. Many blessings. The
