Closing the Container in Intuitive or Healing Work #248

Christina Wooten and Robert Wooten Season 4 Episode 248

We’d love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show!

If you’ve ever felt floaty, emotional, or like there’s lingering energy hanging around after a reading, healing session, or deep spiritual work—your container may still be open.

As intuitives, healers, and sensitives, we often focus so much on opening up to Spirit, to energy, to messages—that we forget one of the most essential parts: closing. Without a strong close, you’re more likely to feel ungrounded, vulnerable, or even energetically scattered. And over time, that can take a real toll on your system.

In this episode, we’re exploring why a thoughtful closing prayer or ritual is more than just a “nice to have.” It’s an energetic boundary. It’s integration. It’s protection. It helps your nervous system settle, brings your energy field back into balance, and gives you the closure needed to return to everyday life feeling strong and clear.  It's essential to your long term health as a spiritual practitioner.

Whether you're doing a session for yourself, connecting with Spirit Guides, or holding sacred space for others, you’ll find some inspiration to create a closing practice that feels resonant for you.

Christina Wooten:

Hey there, kinderd spirits. Welcome to Modern Life and Spirit podcast. It's Christina Wooten, certified psychic medium at SedonaMedium.com Welcome to our episode today. I'm so glad that you're here. I was thinking the other day how important it is to talk more about closing rituals or closing prayers at the end of intuitive work, whether that is the work that you're doing in healing sessions or Reiki sessions with your clients, whether it is at the close of a reading, whether it is the close of a meditation or communication with your spirit guides, or maybe you're doing intuitive journaling or some other form of expression where you're working with the other side. Whenever we're working with the other side, it's important that we bookend that with an opening prayer, which is your invitation to spirit. It's your alignment. It's where you are elevating your energy so that you're in a place to be able to receive and you're letting spirit know I'm ready. Hey, bring me your messages right now. I am open a full antenna ready to receive, and on the other end, having a closing prayer. We need this for multiple reasons. We need it for acknowledging that the work that we are doing is sacred, work that are guides that the other side has worked very hard to share these messages, to say thank you, to express gratitude for the efforts that they have made, how they have shown up for you. It's also an important component of having energetic boundaries and getting closure on the session itself, so that you can begin to return to your own energy and not be influenced by all of the subtle energies and frequencies that might be floating around when you leave the door Open. And of course, you know a closing prayer is part of making sure that you are not doing like a wham bam. Thank you, ma'am to your spirit guides, that you are really taking the time to appreciate what has come forward, to recognize the beauty of that, and it helps to just prevent those energy leaks from happening without having a closing prayer, you are leaving the door cracked open to spirit, and you might not notice it right away, but energetically, something stays unfinished when you don't create a closure there. My mentor used to talk about how important it was to be in balance, even in our spiritual work, because we have to be present and responsible for the lessons that our soul came here to learn, and we have to be in our own energy in order to do that, to actually be in the growth work that we came here to do, we have to be present with what is here, grounded in our experience, grounded in our body, and ready to grow. And we can't do that if we are sort of abdicating our role by being out in the upper chakras and out in those higher energies and not fully present. And what happens is that our spirit guides won't support us in getting out of balance in the long run. They are really invested in us being present fully in our work that we need to do, and also, equally, being able to be of service to others, but not to be in service constantly all the time to spirit to the point where you're being woken up in the middle of the night because you feel a spirit person has come in and they want you to deliver a message to someone those types of things interfere with our ability to do the deeper work, and a closing prayer helps us to define the sacred space that we are creating within ourselves and the work that we are doing. With Spirit. So our closing prayer is also a part of not just energetic hygiene, but also a part of protection. It's important. It's your chakra needs to be able to have that closure. Otherwise what happens is you can feel really Spacey. You'll eventually become more and more drained. You can feel really emotionally raw after your sessions and have trouble letting go of all of that. If you are doing readings for others, or maybe you're doing healing work for other people, you might stay energetically connected to your clients or to their guides or messages too long, and you're going to carry that with you, and then start to absorb some of that into your own energy field. And then once it absorbs into your own energy field, you have to clear it, which is much harder, because it takes a while for you, maybe even to realize that it's not your stuff. This is particularly important for empaths, because we don't want all of those other emotions and subtle energies to influence your direction, your clarity your mind, and essentially clog up your auric field, because over time, all of that is going to make your mind cloudier, harder for spirit to be able to get messages through, because you're holding on to all of this old energy in your auric field, And each of those little sections and pieces represent energy that spirit has to kind of push through to be able to bring forward a clear message. And this is where messages can get very distorted. You might find that you're just getting fragments or pieces of a message or pieces of information, and not feeling like you're getting the whole picture, because your guides are having to move through this sludge that your energy is becoming because you're not raising your vibration, you're not getting to the levels that you need to get to in time. So this really can have a big impact in how you show up for people as well. There are spirits that we need to have very strong, energetic boundaries with, so that they're not hanging around after your session and deciding, you know, boy, she was really fun to talk to. You know, maybe I'll just stick around. We want to have that strong connection and clarity that says, nope. This is my private space. Thank you for allowing me to serve. Have a wonderful day. The beautiful thing about a closing prayer or some sort of closing process or ritual is that it can be very personal for you, so you have the opportunity to really think about what words reflect, what you would want to express, what's something that's easy for you to access in all different environments? I really like just being able to use words, use a closing prayer, specifically because when you start to get into closing rituals, sometimes that involves props, of being able to do a certain practice with a certain something that represents that you are closing the space. And in using props, it means that you need that Prop with you all the time, and it makes it a little bit harder for you to do things on the fly. I like to be able to if I need to tune in at the airport, if I need to tune in, you know, at a time where it's not anticipated, I don't feel like I need some prop that I don't have. So having a closing prayer is really effective and very efficient for that process, being able to just have something that I say mine sounds like at the end of a reading Infinite Intelligence. Thank you for this opportunity of connection. We ask that you continue to support us as we move ever closer to you. Amen. Namaste. And when I do that, I really just am expressing with my heart lots of gratitude and lots of love and lots of appreciation. I'm closing that. I'm expressing that to my client. I'm expressing it to their guides, to their loved ones who have shown up, to my spirit guides, and to the space. So it's a very loving and grateful energy that is emerging as I say those words, and I think that the words are important, but also just capturing that feeling, that expression of love and gratitude through you, is also a big part of closing the process. When we close something with gratitude, we're really showing that we have an understanding of it. It brings things into wholeness. Because it shows the appropriate respect to spirit, to our guides to loved ones. On the other side, it can also really reinforce the bond and trust that you have with your spirit team, which is really important to express that love and appreciation and connection and to feel the love that you have for each other. Once you close a session, it should allow all of those emotions that might have come up, where you were getting messages through clairsentience, for example, to settle and to allow all the wisdom that needs to be absorbed to be absorbed and integrated, and everything else to be able to move on. And it affirms that, hey, I'm ready to get back into everyday life and my work as a human being who is here to continue to grow and develop my spirit energy as well. It helps you to be able to process all of that. So as you start to think about a good closing prayer for your work, a couple of things that I think are really helpful, you'll notice that my prayer is relatively short. It's, I guess, two lines, two sentences, and that's because it's easy to remember when you're coming out of your intuitive practice, you might be a little bit on the trancy side, because you've entered into an altered state of consciousness, and your brain shouldn't be fully engaged. So the normal, like, frontal lobe thinking that's happening is not happening in our intuitive work. And so as you go into the close we don't have, like, all of that same access to memory and to, like, fluid thought and and the things that we we normally have when our brain is fully online when we're in that Transy state, when you're in an altered state of consciousness, you want to keep it simple and keep it easy for yourself so it can be repeated, similar to like muscle memory. It just becomes something that you recognize, and it doesn't require a whole lot of brain power. The longer you're closing prayer and more elaborate your closing prayer becomes, the harder it's going to be for you to actually implement that when it does come time for a close and especially in a variety of different circumstances that you might be in, or if you're distracted, there aren't any real right words that you need to have there. It just needs to be able to represent your heart, your gratitude, your appreciation. So think about what is helping you come back into your body, and also what is a sincere appreciation and thankfulness and closure to your spirit guide. So it can be something very simple, like thank you for your presence. I release this energy with love or with gratitude. I close this session and return fully to myself, establishing a closing prayer. When you are doing this regularly, it is going to help you with that energetic drain. It's going to help you maintain energetic boundaries, so that you don't have lingering energies hanging out in your space, which could cause more energetic drain. And you are going to find the peace and the joy of that connection, unique connection time that you do have with spirit when you have an established time where you are indicating, I am closing at this point, your guides are going to understand that and really show up for you when you open, because they are excited and ready. They're like, Oh, I've got all of these messages that I can't wait to communicate with you. And I know that I have, you know, a limited amount of time to be able to do that, where you're really tuned in, you're really clear you're in that high vibrational state in order to be able to intentionally receive so they're going to really show up for you. So the key is that we want to establish this routine that's going to help your spirit guides know what it means when we have an opening, and know what it means when we have a closing. And those boundaries, in the long run, will help you in a big way, so that you don't have spirit impeding on your regular life in ways that can be detrimental. So this happens a lot when people are first beginning their spiritual development journey, because they don't have a whole lot of boundaries, they're just like, let me open up to everything, and so that sends the signal of like we're just wide open to receive all things. And that leads to different challenges, where somebody might be closing their eyes as they're developing clairvoyance, they might start to see tons and tons of. Faces that are just like right there in their mind's eye, because it's all spirit who's ready to talk to that person. You know, you might have times where you are awakened in the middle of the night, or you are getting messages when it's an inappropriate time for you to receive messages. So we want to be able to reinforce this collaborative connection with our spirit guides, to have those safe, energetic boundaries and not have lingering energies that are going to ultimately make you feel not so great, and not pursue your continued spiritual development and intuitive development. So I hope that this has helped. I hope that you feel inspired to really make sure that you have an opening and that you have a closing, and to follow through with that closing all of the time, and in the very beginning, I know that sometimes it can be a little bit challenging when you are starting a brand new type of routine for yourself, where you might forget every now and then right that's okay. What I want you to do is the moment that you remember, oh my gosh, I forgot my clothes, is to just stop right then and immediately do your clothes, because that is going to anybody that's lingered, dismiss them, let them know it's time to go immediately, and it's going to kind of clean the energy in your space. All right. Thank you everyone for joining us for this episode. I hope that you feel inspired, and I look forward to talking to you on our next episode, sending many blessings. The
